In the Land of the Griffin

PRESENTATION
Pomerania’s rich cultural and historical heritage can still be experienced in the region in a variety of ways today. There are clearly visible traces – monuments, historic buildings, avenues or milestones – but also those that first need to be brought to light again, such as historic maps, often lovingly designed, or postcards and photographs, historic travel guides and literary works currently kept in libraries and archives.
The project in terris Gryphi will make these available online in the long term and also present them directly on site, including through exhibitions throughout the region.
In future, this page will allow you to access digitised cultural treasures in the MV Digital Library easily, quickly and exactly where you want them – whether you’re on site, out and about, or reading up from home. However, this section is still under construction…
One of the aims of our project is to bring to light these ‘less visible traces’ – the valuable cultural heritage of Pomerania, which is usually only accessible through archives, libraries or museums. We will digitise maps, files, newspapers, yearbooks, letters, photographs and many other collections, and make them freely available to everyone via the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Digital Library on the German side and, on the Polish side, the West Pomeranian Digital Library. Historical traces are to be made visible again, and traditions worth knowing are to be brought back into the spotlight through maps, timelines and suggested tours, offering both locals and tourists new insights into the cultural landscape of Pomerania.

Greifswald – What actually happens to our digitised cultural treasures once we’ve uploaded them to the Digital Library of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania? In other words: how are they used, and by whom? The statistics tell us how often they’ve been looked at, but are they also being put to further use? In fact, they’re leading to…
Greifswald – The natural beauty of the Pomeranian Baltic coast was already being praised in the last century in a multitude of historical travel guides, which we have now digitised for the first time. However, as the exhibition by Kristine von Soden – created in collaboration with the Max Samuel Haus Rostock – impressively demonstrates,…
The University Library of Greifswald coordinates the project and implements it together with the Książnica Pomorska (Pomeranian Public Library) in Szczecin and the State Office for Road Construction and Transport Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Tourism Association, the State Archives in Schwerin and the Brandenburg State Road Authority are supporting the project as associated partners.
