Rostock – To ensure that historical records are ultimately available as usable digital copies, they go through several stages: The records on road construction are scanned in Schwerin, imported into the Goobi software in Greifswald, and further processing then takes place in both Rostock and Greifswald.
To ensure these processes run as smoothly as possible, all parties involved met today at the State Archives of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The focus was on the interfaces between the individual steps, the optimization of shared processes, and how the workflow can be further improved.
A file is not like a book: While books—such as those in the collection of the University Library of Greifswald—often have a uniform structure that can be easily replicated in the structural data, historical administrative files are significantly more varied—ranging from loose pages and handwritten notes to inserted official gazettes. Accordingly, the workflows for scanning and further processing also differ considerably.
