Avenues

Avenues still characterise our landscape in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania today. State-of-the-art technology is now being applied to these historic tree populations: thanks to LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), a laser remote sensing technique primarily used for forest mapping, individual trees can now also be identified. Tree movement sensors (TMS) detect whether a tree is still stable after a storm – or whether it has been damaged, for example during construction work. Smart irrigation supports the growth of young trees during dry spells, while acoustic impulse methods can even detect the course of the roots – and bats can be monitored at the same time thanks to multi-sensor stations. Tree-lined avenues make an important contribution to biodiversity and nature conservation!
